I find when you follow a much older car you get a slight smell of fuel but when you follow a modern car it stinks. Something is not right and this vw scandal will hopefully help sort it all out.

As mentioned above you use the wet sanding to remove the orange peel effect and then you use a polisher to make it like glass which removes the scratches left from the wet sanding.

When the boot is closed or not. When not closed a light is displayed in the clusters. Mine seems to be buggered as the light stays on.
