Sucessfully accessed the EMS2000 on my 03 ZS V6 , looked at a few things - looks ok.

Did get "Suspect K line shortto +12v wait 2s" which Philp says
the message "Suspect K line short to +12v wait 2s" is because some of the Rover ECUs are not strictly compliant with the standards and so they cause the software logic to trigger this warning.

Will have to have a closer look at the actual values returned on the screen next time.

I successfully connected to my rover 75 and discovered a fault code P1471 that relates to the VIS motor.
I removed the VIS motor and discovered that it was the common problem of bad soldered joints to one of the micro switchs. I successfully repaired the connections and refitted the motor. It was then that I had difficulty resetting the fault codes. I tried several times within EMS2000 and each time the codes would not clear. Eventually I came out of EMS2000 and tried using OBD2 where I was able to reset the codes okay. Then back into EMS2000 to make sure that they had really gone which they had.
It's all clear now but it was a bit of a kerfuffle.

I read the ECU on my mk2 ZS180 today, worked fine although obviously I couldn't access the Pektron BCU.

So... what is the advantage of the pscan over, say, Torque Pro and an ODB2 reader for the MK2 ZS180? So far everything I have read suggests the Cheapo ODB2 does roughly the same as the pscan?

It can read information not accesable through OBD2 in the ECU, it also reads ABS and SRS ecus and will be able to read the Pektron BCU at some point. On a mk1 it can read the 5AS unit and reprogram fobs.

I have yet to play with the EMS2000 features, a friend in Ireland wanted to borrow mine to try on his ZS180.

Does it have the "Immobiliser Learn" option, he may need to swap the ECU as part of his fault finding.

I am afraid that I need some time to look at this. I need to sort out damiencs problems first as he has paid for an interface and currently cannot use it.

Please note that lending your diagnostic tool out is not compliant with the licensing terms and we cannot guarantee that it will still be useable when it comes back.

It would be better if your friend buys his own interface and then we will support him.

I planned to bring my laptop and pscan when I travel to Dublin at Christmas and try it on the car, is this not allowed????

I just wanted to find out in advance if the option I asked about was available, if not there is no point in me bringing it
with me.

Yes of course that is allowed.

We are working on an update at the moment. Once that's done I can have a look at this.

Currently EMS2000 to immobiliser learning is not supported.
I am hopeful that this is something that could be added quite quickly.
I will give it a go.

Yesterday I went to visit a customer who has a 2001 ZS180.
My factory T4 diagnostic tool would not log into the EMS2000 ! I need to be able to use the factory tool on a car in order to reverse engineer the protocol.
I don't know why it wouldn't log in because pscan could log in fine.

I might need access to a car so if anyone else in North / West London area has a ZS180 that I can plug into then it would help.

I don't suppose that there are any ZS 180 owners in the Cambridge area who might be around this Friday are there?
If so please PM or email me.

Yesterday I finally managed to get our T4 to connect to an EMS2000 ECU (from a ZS 180) and get it to run the immobiliser code learning protocol.

We should be able to release this within a few days.

Does anyone have a list of pins, or a wiring diagram for the EMS2000 ECU?
I need to know which pin on the EMS2000 goes to the immobiliser signal on the 5AS or Pektron.
It is pin J1/9 on a 5AS.
I have an ECU from a late ZS 180 (a Pektron car).

I have two conflicting pieces of information.
One says that it is pin 22 and the other says pin 52.

I checked in my diagrams and that are at least 3 different ones.

In each case for KV6 Engine Management System in ZS pin for communication to Alarm ECU, 5AS or BCU is pin 22.

Also in each case for KV6 Engine Management Sytem in ZT and ZTT pin for communication to Alarm immobilization ECU is pin 52.

Hi Philip,

I was intrigued with conflicting info I found this morning in more then 6 different documents. Because of that I digged deeper on this problem and compared information in Freelander ECU diagrams for KV6 engine.
In each one of them for MY2001 to MY2004 EMS2000 ECU pin for immobilisation is pin number 52.

I also digged more into documentation and in independent EMS2000 pinout description for ECU used in LR and MGRover cars equipped with KV6 engine found a confirmation that pin 52 is used for immobilization while pin 22 is not used at all.

I also checked in all ZS KV6 pinout diagrams in which I found that pin 52 is not used at all, but stated pin 22 as the one connected to 5AS or BCU.

I cannot conclude above other then mistake written as 22 instead correct 52. This mistake is used in all future ZS ECU diagrams.

Re: EMS2000

Whilst you were doing that I hooked up pin 22 of my EMS2000 to a 5AS and it says that it has learnt the immobiliser code, and error code P1666 has gone from the error logs (after erasing the errors it doesn't come back).

Therefore I would say that the ZS180 KV6 ECU is different to the Freelander / 75 / ZT KV6 ECU.
ZS pin 22
Freelander / 75 pin 52

Another interesting thing is that my EMS2000 is from a Pektron car but it seems quite happy to munch on the signal from a 5AS instead.

I have seen a posts here stating that a MEMS2 (so 5AS type immo signal) was working in a Freelander, but now it appears that the V6 Freelander might use a 75/ZT type scheme.

Then I stand corrected in my assumption and ZS diagrams seems fine. Odd to see this difference, but seems it is.

In regard to MEMS2 it is used in R800 with KV6 engine too, so I am not surprised.

To me it would be normal that same ECU is happy for immo signal from either 5AS or Pektron. Am I missing something?

Rover 75/ZT is different. Once a 75 ECU is matched to the immobiliser it cannot be matched again to a different car.

An engine ECU from a 5AS or Pektron car won't work in a 75 and vice versa.

The fact that the Freelander uses the same pin as the 75 is therefore interesting.

Interesting... the pin out documents I have also say for 75/ZT it's pin 52 and pin 22 is PAS switch.. might need to buy a 180 ECU to test

Image

Also NNN100170 & NNN100655 are apparently interchangeable and both used on 45/ZS & 75/ZT platforms.

In case of my diagrams for 75/ZT it says pin 22 is not used, except in case of 45/ZS when it is connected to immobilisation ECU when pin 52 is not used.

PAS as Power Steering? Even on Freelander pinouts I could not find any use of pin 22.

Yes, I found pinout table for 75/ZT in which says that Pin 22 is Power Assisted Steering load/presure sensor/switch and actualy found inconsistency for diagram and table on this PAS topic.

In case of Freelander table also says pin 22 not used.

Learning of the EMS code from a Pektron or 5AS is now included in update 041C.
At this time it has only been tested on a ZS180.
It probably will not work on a 75/ZT V6.
Whether it works on a Freelander V6 is unknown. It is not recommended to try it on a vehicle that your depend on. Try it at your own risk.

From 2000 onwards the Freelander adopted the BWM EWS3 immobiliser, MEMS3 and EMS2000 ECU's were different from this point to match.

So ECUs from EWS3 vehicles are "different" and cannot easily be moved to a new vehicle.
The question that I have now is, what does happen if you put one of these ECUs into learning mode?
Does it do any harm? Does it just do nothing?

Never had reason to try it to be honest, I will pop a Rover 75 MEMS3 ECU and a KV6 ECU on the bench later today and try 5AS/SCU immobiliser matching on it.

Not sure if it helps much but used an Autel diagnostics tool to connect with two KV6 engines today (ZS 180 & 75 160)

Connected using Landrover freelander protocols, no problem with either and information seems to display correctly
