Hi Everyone,

After searching the net for some cost effective diagnostic equipment for my rover 75 cdt, it seems all roads of enquiry about this item (pscan ) seem to end up here, so I have joined in the hope I might evaluate just how useful this product might be to someone who doesn't really need a whole T4 for just 2 cars? Having read some of the comments, I am of two minds.

Not being able to contact directly either the distributors or makers with any problems, with installing or using the device would be a major problem (we have all bought chinese stuff only to find that they have little or no useful instructions or way of contacting them) and from various comments, it does seem that installing the item tends to be a stumbling point for quite a few users.

Wondering what exactly would I be getting within the price is another point I am unsure about, am I buying a device that connects with cables? bluetooth? will it work on my specific model of rover 75? is there a yearly renewable licence fee involved? will it include the right cables to fit my car or do I have to buy them as extras? and how long will these cables be? (will they be long enough to reach from a laptop under the bonnet of the car to the diagnostic socket under the steering wheel?)

And as to the readouts the device provides.. does it produce user friendly data when its reading the engines running signals to the ecu (the values its actually getting, against what it should get when working correctly) this would highlight issues easily, ie: getting a reading of 00.06% doesn't mean a lot if one doesn't know if 00.06% is a good or bad reading is it?

I don't mind spending £150 or so, but I wanna know what I am buying before I say yes, so can anyone who already has one, leave me a note telling me whatever features they have found that are useful or whatever they have found they did not like about it? on the face of it, it looks like a really useful piece of kit.. but having no company address, person or phone number to contact reminds me of past buying experiences from china, happy if you leave a reply here, or in my inbox or even email me directly, whatever reply method is ok by me, cheers everyone

My understanding is that it's software you install on a laptop and the cable you need to hook it up to the OBD port and an inferface unit, no annual subscription/license fees, you just pay one lump sum and that's it.

The device and software have been designed by a real live person here in the UK, he is constantly updating the software with free updates to customers who have purchased the device.

It comes with a lead to plug into the 16 pin OBD port found on all post 1996 MG/Rover cars, he sells a separate lead for earlier cars fitted with a 3 pin diagnostic port. There is then another lead that goes from the device to a USB port on your laptop.

The 16 pin socket will be somewhere around the drivers footwell and the leads are long enough to reach a laptop on your lap in the drivers seat (I've not tried it from the passenger seat in the MGF where the socket is at the bottom of the A pillar but it will definatly reach the socket in my ZS and ZR).

The code reader section gives the code reference number and a brief description, same as any code reader.
The live data reader will give the information the ECU sees, there are plenty of folks around that can tell you what it means.

Personally I would recommend it over a T4 on cost or a Black Box Solutions as that is limited on the number of cars you can use it on, as for generic OBD2 readers, they are not even in the same universe.

For your information on the pscan unit, you seemed to have covered all the questions I asked about it, a couple of other kind folk messaged me about it too and a couple of weeks ago bought one and installed it on a laptop, the only thing that confused me was in the instructions that there would be some sort of light would illuminate when it is plugged in and ready to go... well I plugged it in.. brought up the start screen and was able to read the ucu etc all fine... only I never can spot the little elusive light lol... (I expect the led was probably duff) since the gadget works and does reads and resets etc, so I can live without the little light being on.

The reason I wanted one was to help pinpoint an elusive fault I have on an o4 facelift estate rover 75 Cdt... which seems to have stumped several of us up here in Yorkshire (yes flat caps and whippets) car starts up and runs smooth every time... can rev it up to 4k and above when stood and no smoke or noise either... the issue is.. if you set off at steady revs the car performs great.. but if you push the cars revs above 2-2.5k when driving.. ie when overtaking etc.. the car cuts out dead.... not a stall.. but its like all electrical power has been cut to the engine and fuel pump.. and the onboard display says... check engine?... but the car then restarts spot on and if you dont drive it hard.. it still runs??

before I got the pscan, I did the usual things.. made sure car was 1/2 full of fuel (in case it might be a pump issue (the facelift only has an under seat pump, no second under bonnet pump) changed air, fuel, oil filters, added new oil too, and as I had a fully functioning doner 75, swapped the Maf, egr, and each sensor I could find, but the bugger still gives the same issue.. and the doner car still runs with all the exchanged parts fitted?

Playing with the pscan it throws up two faults historially stored so I cleared them then made the car develop the same issue (so the pscan would only be reading fresh errors) it now only gives 2 errors... one relates to the fuel rail.. the other to the fuel delivery... so I guess i will change the fuel rail and then the under seat pump.. fingers crossed lol...

does anyone know if the under seat pump is the same one fitted to pre-facelift models or did they fit a different one when they done away with the second pump that use to be under the bonnet?
