I rarely ever polish my cars - even my new ZS..
... car wash good enough... there are some good ones but yes. I do know they can scratch.
However, you could eat your dinner off some of my engines.......they ARE clean ....
What puzzles me is when you lift the bonnet on some beautifully polished nice car, only to be disappointed by a filthy engine and engine compartment .... and usually those leads, distributor cap and filters should have been renewed 30,000 miles ago !
However, one of my old red Montegos had a very dull but rust free bonnet accumulated over the years of car washes. Ripping up an old cotton T-shirt, I got stuck in. I used kitchen sink Jif type cream as a T-cut (works a treat on old 'dead' dulled reds) and then an old tub of wax car polish to finish it off. Looked good as new and you could see your reflection in the shine ...... but my arms did ache for a bit. Big bonnets those old Montys. But, the pleasing result made it worthwhile.... wont do that again in a hurry though ....what's RSI Dad?........
Funny old game people and their cars ......

That's nothing. I usually whisper suggestively racy stuff to my car as I tenderly wash her all over. Sometimes, I like to take her out somewhere special, like a real fancy restaurant on a friday night, wine and dine her... you know how it goes... pretty soon she's a bit tipsy and I'm trying to convince her to come home with me so I can take advantage of her.
Of course, the only problem is getting her up the stairs!
