He doesnt wear a baseball cap by any chance.
Tell him if hes that confident that you'll race him for his car (aslong as you can drive ok) and when you win do a clarkson and blow it up infront of him.

If it's std then you should have no trouble, would be closer if it was round a track though.

Yep, their much lighter arent they, far less torque though
I was thinking more about the handling.

Shared a track night with a stripped out, modified mi16 engined 205, on full slicks, owned by an ex peugeot ecosse mechanic, in my coupe with just GBE @ 12psi, cone filter and a de-cat on mine a couple of years ago.
Not a lot in it round Knockhill, 205 was 1-2 seconds faster per lap overall, all on the corners. Marginally slower on the straights than the coupe. Standard CT vs standard 1.9Gti, I'd take that challenge for cash ;(

Whilst the 205 does handle very well it simply doesnt have the levels of grip a decent Rover can generate, mind you i can't remember what a std rover is like
Not great.
Too true

I had someone at college tell me his nova was faster than my 214 about two years ago.....
I asked what engine he had, "its got a 1.2 with three turbos on each cylinder".....i laughed, but raced him anyway
, half way down the road his car turned into a blue smoke machine.....
This was a time when a car that did 0-60 in ten seconds (like mine) was considered a rocket within the group of 18 year old Nova, corsa and saxo boys.
No one expected such performance from my "pipe and slipper-mobile"
Find a decent bit of private road and show him up, your VVC should outpace a standard 205 GTI 1.9 anyday. Bear in mind the youngest of the pugs are still over 11 years old!!!!!

Very rolly is a standard one, but the situation I talked about at Knockhill, I had standard suspension, the car wouldnt have been out of place with a gyrometer showing the angle of the horizon on some of the corners, but it still lapped ok, provided you can get used to letting the car pitch right in, it will still generate a decent amount of grip and get round the corner. Obviously with modified suspension they are much better, I was astounded when I had a play with a Cossie down a b-road after fitting the Koni's, coupe was absolutely murdering it in the bends.
