Importing Rover Coupe to the USA

Post by T_16 »

My friend in the USA really wants a Rover coupe.

Is he screwed trying to get one into the country?

Someone on Ebay was selling a 216 coupe in the US !

Dont know how he managed it though.

Hi Ross, it's got to be possible, anything is. But surely that would be exporting

The 216 was a Jap import. You have to get the car through one of their tests, like our SVA iirc - only stricter. Can be done though.

I think that 216 on ebay was a left hand drive, thought it was from Italy.

Worth checking the bumper requirements before sending it. Emissions shouldn't be much bother with the possible exception of Kalifornia. Again, probably easiest to check before departure.

Perhaps you should send him two cars? One to drive and the other to harvest parts from ;)

Certain imported automobiles may be subject to the "gas-guzzler" tax. No tax is imposed on automobiles that have a combined fuel-economy rating of at least 22.5 miles per gallon.

Only in america is 22.5mpg not a gas-guzzler. Combined figure too!

Believe me, when I lived over there, anything over 15mpg was considered an economical runabout! Mind you, petrol was under a dollar a gallon at the time. ;)

Lowest combined figure I ever saw on a dealer forecourt was 8mpg on a Ford Excursion. :o
