what do ya reckon??

Post by nebburns »

hi guys,

sorry to butt in here but i need your advice as your talking about the 1.4k,

im slowly modifying it but need your opinions,

1.4 16v 1998, 103ps as standard;

so far ive had the following,

head skimmed,
advanced ignition,
Lotus vernier on inlets advanced by 5degrees
52 mm alloy throttle body

what sort of bhp do you think that will be? ive been told at about 110bhp,
appreciate its difficult to tell because of so many factors concerning how the engine has been traeted, but lets say for arguments sake that the engine has still got 103ps, plus my mods, any thoughts??

and.... would a de-cat be worth it?

appreciate any help

regards
Ben.

K series benefits very well from intake/exhaust mods.

A de-cat with a free flowing system and a good high flow air filter (e.g. K&N) with a good cold air feed (best in a cold air box) will see you some good gains.

[quote="Ross9"]A Metro with 120 BHP would be a very potent track car if the handlign and braking were sorted.[/quote

I sprint a Metro GTi, have only done the zorst & filter as far as trhe engine goes.

Have done the handling though, currently come in 2nd in most events to a VERY well sorted Suzuki Swift GTi, he's spet IRO £5000 on it, against my £1500 all in!!!!

Im sprint at Castle Combe on 16 Oct, hoping for my first win!!!!
mmm, another boring signature

First post, here goes.

Started off with a 1.4 GTi based kit car (don't ASK about the body, it's embarassing). Rolling road showed final output as 125bhp.

800 series brake discs/Braided hoses/Green pads
De-cat/part-Powerflow/part-bespoke system with 4-2-1 1&3/8" manifold
'Green' cone filter and ducting to reposition near the grille
Elise plenum
E-4 (?) coil/uprated leads/plugs
Kent 265 cams & pullies
Flowed/ported/polished head
Valves..........lost the details on these
Emerald ECU

Quite fun for a Metro.

If we all lived in fear of HG failure we would quite literally, end up no where. It was a design flaw which can be corrected. It's such a great engine otherwise.

jstu thought i'd dumop this here, i have ousted my 1.6 "K" in favour of an early 1.4 :?: why, cause i think its more suitable for boost.

theres not alot (well, none!) of info on forced induciton k-series so im guna be takign mine step by step, seing what fails then sorting that and seign what fails next etcetc

progress to date is here: -

1.4 is better for tuning appara... something to do with square stroke and bore.

put it this way there a good engine and I'll get another any day infact waiting
to see what happens with this 200 Vi .

treat them right they'll run for ever decent oil + M/D filter

How much and how hard is it to fit the vented discs to the front? And has anyone ever fitted a turbo to a 1.4 and been succesful?

Because i want to fit one to mine now, probably would be easier than gettin a 220 turbo and cheaper on insurance...

a few year ago i remember seeing a link to a car that was attempting to break the 1400cc speed record and it used a k series. IIRC it had 750bhp but ran lots of revs not sure if it was just the block that was used though.
