As much as I hate to encourage MCN-style paranoia, it does seem the courts have it in for bikers. I can't recall a pure speeding case involving a car that ended in jail, but ones involving bikes come up every few months.

I think you have to bare in mind that despite the fact it probably wont work, theyre doing it to teach them a lesson for their own safety. If you come off at 170mph on a bike on a road, theres not gonna be alot left of you for your children.
i think these people that do them sorts of speeds know that mark though, same could be said for coming off at 70mph too, granted you would be in larger bits....
A week behind bars would serve adequately as a warning, if that's what you want to do. Nine months is the sort of sentence dished out for the rather nasty, serious criminal offenses.

One of the problems with magistrates, the sentence depends on their personal opinion about an offence. Granted we don't know the full stories here but there does on the face of it seem a disparity between the sentencing policies of individual magistrates/sheriffs.

Thing is with a car you can do alot more damage to other people in the area you're headed for too.

mostly but perhaps a skilled surgeon could select the prime cuts and odd bits that are not too squishy

That's what i was thinking. I know of people getting less than that for burgling houses and stuff round here..... oh sorry i forgot, they smack heads so get treatment (i.e. free gear) instead of jail dont they
