That reminds me: I followed an MG6 in BTCC livery up the A1 last week. The guy driving looked in his early twenties.

It's just being transported between sites because they are not all roadworthy.
I've seen one in the flesh at my work too. We get loads of the black and white taped Jags, Astons and Range Rovers. Also the odd McLaren.

Probably yea. They've been road testing the Chinese spec 3's over here for around a year now but this is the first public siting of a UK spec one. Apparently fue to go on sale around August time.lennox1185 wrote:It's just being transported between sites because they are not all roadworthy.

Re: UK Spec MG3 Spotted in Birmingham...
I knew MG 6 sales weren't setting anything on fire, but 9 sales across 40 dealerships for the whole of February?! 9?! They'll just be making them for BTCC soon enough!
I seem to recall seeing the Chinese MG 3's and thinking they looked awful, similar to the current Fabia iirc.
And people thought P4's management of MGR was bad!

Re: UK Spec MG3 Spotted in Birmingham...
Agreed, even though all the fanboi's on .org keep defending MG UK I can't see them lasting much longer unless they seriously pull something out the bag. They aren't bad cars with some fairly decent reviews but they are so dull and boring.stefaclese wrote:I knew MG 6 sales weren't setting anything on fire, but 9 sales across 40 dealerships for the whole of February?! 9?! They need some bigger power more sporting models to sell over here. Even china get an MG6 with a very similer body kit to the BTCC car so why haven't we got it?

Re: UK Spec MG3 Spotted in Birmingham...
You'd think they could've at least put a KV6 or anything more powerful than the same old 1.8 turbo in the BTCC editions.
Does SAIC still have any of its obligations from when it bought the MGR assets or something? That strikes me as about the only reason they could have to still be keeping Longbridge going? Don't get me wrong, I want to see Longbridge making cars, but it all seems a bit pointless. They'd be better off making niche cars there that people will actually buy rather than a handful of euroboxes. The last time I even saw an MG 6 on the roads was in Oxfordshire last summer, and the only advertising seems to be through their facebook page, BTCC and at the odd supermarket every once in a while.

Re: UK Spec MG3 Spotted in Birmingham...
what gets me is all they have released is a 1.8T.
to even be successful with rep boxes and most average people nowdays is a Diesel.
to attract enthusiastic drivers they need a fast version.
the 1.8t is neither fast or mega economical so its in no mans land.
i think since it was released ive only seen maybe 3 or 4 MG6's on the road.

Re: UK Spec MG3 Spotted in Birmingham...
Engines are the main problem. The MG6 isn't a bad car and has been praised for it's handling but with literally no choice when it comes to engines it makes a hard sell even more difficult.
Realistically they need three engines:
Small capacity petrol turbo - Low tax.
Turbo diesel - Attractive to the fleet buyer.
Performance variant - Halo model.

I believe the diesel is already on sale. There's one on eBay.Pinkie15 wrote:Thought the diesel 6 is due for release next month
The fact even members of an MG-Rover based forum didn't even know about the diesel just proves how bad MG-UK's marketing is.

Their advertising is pretty tripe n onions poor tbh, they really need a hot version. Because from what I know, MGs were always sporty cars, not bloody repmobiles

I see this car every day, that one and a white one, I think the guys commute to and from the plant, 645am and 545pm almost every day, they have silver foil on the badges, you can tell it's an MG from a mile..

I actually saw an MG6 today
A black one at Fiveways with MG.co.uk stickers on the sides and the rear, first time I've actually seen one in Brum apart from a Roewe 550 test mule.

Re: UK Spec MG3 Spotted in Birmingham...
That pretty much sums up how useless the current marketing campaign is. I read the motoring press on a fairly regular basis as well internet forums, and although I heard there was a diesel in pipeline I've seen nothing about its release.southside wrote:I believe the diesel is already on sale. A search of google (mg6 diesel) only reveals a handful of reviews and not a single news story. Which is sad considering that all new engine has been designed and engineered in the UK.
It's a sad state of affairs really. All of the reviews are fairly positive, though they stopped short of recommending it over any of its rivals, and it's keenly priced. This little overview from a Civic owner looking for a new car sums it up nice:

Any details on the new diesel engine?
I do like Rover's continuing habbit of putting the exhaust manifold on the front of the engine.

I think the amount of diesel 6's sold to private customers since release can be counted on one hand and I'm not joking. It's just to expensive.Punx0r wrote:Any details on the new diesel engine?

MG have recently offloaded alot of petrol 6's to motorpoint and sold at
massive discounts off list price.

Just wondering whether they'd resumed work with the G-series or started from scratch.
That review of the 6 by the Civic seemed pretty good and fair.
