Rover 25 iL 1.4 sept 2002
Hi I have just bought the above car with 55000 miles on it. It seems very underpowered when going up hills and have to drop gears to enable me to climb hills comfortably its an 84ps. I also get the smell of fuel when I first start the vehicle could it be its running too rich, any help would be appreciated

Wow, you sound just like me a few months back - http://rovertech.net/forum/viewtopic.ph ... =+Rover+25
Mine was down to low compression, valves not seating correctly. Cleaned up the valves, reseated and rebuilt the head and it was much better.
What mileage are you getting to a tank?

You need to change the throttle body to an unrestricted 48mm onerodlus wrote:Hi I have just bought the above car with 55000 miles on it. You also need to change the throttle cable to one from an unrestricted vehicle.
There is absolutely no way you can get around this.
Put your hand in your pocket, pay the money for the right bits and you will not look back.
The car will have allot more power and driveability.
Hope that helps.

Hi many thanks for your posts. I bought it for fuel economy which I guess is very good now you have put it this way. Where would you suggest I pick up these parts and would it alter my road tax classification

That's one thing I appreciated with mine after coming to terms with the slowness, the fuel economy was really good. The throttle body you need if you decide to de-restrict it can be taken off a MG ZR 1.4 (105) and the cable.rodlus wrote:Hi many thanks for your posts. Where are you based? I think I still have my de-restricted throttle body which I was going to fit but I no longer have the car.
I don't think it will affect the price on your tax band, I believe the Rover 25 (84ps) and MG ZR (105) both pay the same road tax.
(Not like you would tell them anyway, no one would know the difference!!)
