If you can get the insurance to a reasonable figure keep it.

I prefer the shape of the Mk2 to the bubbliness of the Mk3/ZR (though the ZR has a definite edge over the plain Mk3)

KEEP it - your miss the turbo if it goes trust me..... going from a turbo coupe back to a NASP made me do the conversion!

If you do sell it dont get another newer Rover !!

Will probably be just as unrealible :D

Least you no what you got at the moment and secondhand cars are worth nothing secondhand.

 Why have an option like keep it and mod the engine big time? All that will happen is the gearbox will fail again. Spend the $ on getting the box uprated so it is less likely to break in the future. You don't have to go to the extremes that I am, but decent bearings at the very least will improve reliability big time.

I would keep the turbo. Just think how much £££ you are going to lose on depreciation over the next couple of years on a ZR.

Just my 2p's worth...

Echo Wayne! For what a new ZR will depreciate in 1 year let alone more, you could mod the 220 to your hearts content!

Stick with it, you know it makes sence  :D :D

If you are selling def dont get a new ZR.
If you like ZRs then get a 2nd hand one for much less money.

Personally I'd either keep it or go jap.

That's not going to be very easy on a MY04 ZR though is it.

As for depreciation, there is none until you sell. Anyone who buys a new car and sells it at 12 months can probably afford too. Kepp it for 4 years and they are quite reasonable and hassle free.

I would keep the turbo mate, the only ZR you could possibly enjoy would be the 160 and then overall running costs if you take in repayments and the like it will probably work out more expensive, and there is a chance you will get bored of it.

You don't have to mod the turbo, just get a new diff, and then rebuild the box with proper bearings. Then you can enjoy the car after all it is only the diff that has gone, and that will only cost around £250 IIRC for a new one.
