Had a 53 plate Toyota Yaris now for about 4 days, what can i say apart from its a bloody good car!
Now we all know it looks a little bit of a girly car, certainly a car i always overlooked because of this fact. Anyways last Thursday one was dropped off at my house for me to use whilst my car was being repaired. The car is a bottom of the range 1.0 T2 in bright blue.
The car itself look tiny on the outside. After getting into the car it is like a bloomin tardis, it HUGE! Let me put this in perspective it seems as big as my Ti in the front and has a much higher roof so you feel so small sitting in the drivers seat. The car itself feels quite high up but the driving position is spot on. You seem to be in a much more upright position than on my Ti. The seats are like mobile arm chairs, comfy - you bet.
I turn the key, has the engine come on looking at the digital dash it has. On tickover it is silent you cannot tell its on. Knock it into first gear. First is a bit notchy, all other gears are fine though you have to be fairly accurate where you are shoving the extremly short shift box. Car had only done 9k and already the clutch was right at the top of its travel which made setting off a little tricky.
The throttle is VERY sensetive and the engine is eager to rev in lower gears. From 1st to 4th the car is remarkably nippy for a mear 64bhp 1l engine. As you work your way through the tight box you strangely have a smile on your face, how can this be?
The ride is very comfy and compliant, due to the really soft suspension it does lean quite a lot, but its such a hoot to drive.
I have done over 200 miles in it now, it hardly rattles at all. Went out to pub on Friday night and brought 4 of the mates back in it. They commented how much room this car had. My bro in the back with his Mrs pipes up 'this things quick for a 1l'
I find myself having so much fun in this car which in all honesty doesn't do anything brillianty but does everything exceedingly well!
If you are considering a small car you could certainly do an aweful lot worse. I have absolutely hammered this car and still got 130miles to a £10. (The double what i get from my Ti).
Its no speed machine but wooaahh this car has certainly supprised me. I actually found myself questioning wheather or not i should buy one!
Overall i am thoroughly impressed!

you should try driving a yaris t-sport, it has a 1.5 l engine with 105 bhp as standard, my friend has just bought one for his missus and she loves it
already she has gone and fitted a set of chrome 17" alloys and he is planning a turbo conversion for her at jap inovations where he has had his subaru pumped up to 400 bhp, even after driving his scooby he still enjoys the yaris

Hugh had a new Yaris sport but the 1.3 VVTi. It was one of the earlier ones that had the sports exhaust and if really did burble. Was a quick car to and handle well. Brakes on it were amazing.
The dash is ace too. Dont like the new T-sport as much as they have gone back to clock dials and the alloys look naff.
I wouldnt mind getting and early 1.3 and dropping in a 1.8VVTi 190bhp from the celica in. Now that would be interesting.

It's quite amazing how well modern cars are designed.
If anybody has been in a 5dr EP civic (new shape), then you'll know how stupidly huge it is inside. Way bigger than a volvo 740, but way shorter
Also, little cars with short gear ratios are great fun. The impression of speed is greater. However I think I'd prefer a corrola 3dr to a yaris, just to stop people laughing, lol.
