With help from the RAVE manual I have rebuild the head ,even without the special tools. It took about a full days work and a few busted nuckles.
Have replaced all the belts. Engine started after few revolutions, with very loud tapped noise, wich died down after a few minutes. After warming up and bleeding the cooling system, made test run that put a big smile on my face. Mission completed.
The cost involved for gasket set, waterpump, tensioner, 4 new belts and skimming/pressure testing was € 750.
BTW, there are still new Rover/MG for sale in the Netherlands.
The future is still bright.

you only need the C clamps when you remove the vvc unit/cams
otherwise belt change like any other K

Right you only need the C clamps if you remove the vvc camshfts from the carriers hope that makes sense. if I'm wrong I stand corrected

Rebuilding a VVC head does involve removing the cams though ;) No special tools are strictly needed, they can just make reassembly less complicated.

Good work IMO, the VVC mech is pretty daunting
