my folks have the vitty turbo version and i think they look great (but i suppose i am biased)
Ive not driven there coupe, but my saloon handles far better than i thought it would and is genuinly good fun to drive.
The review is probably baised on the earlyer v6 version before rover tweaked the suspention etc to sharpen up the handeling.
Chugging along on the black stuff

The 800 coupe shouldn't be there.... and I'm not really sure the Carisma should either, as yeah, ok, it's boring, but it does the job perfectly well.
And yeah, even hinting at praising the Ford Ka, one of the only cars in production whose chassis is not strong enough to have a tow bar fitted, just pretty much shows he's on crack.

i love how he contradicts h8imself:
" Even in 1995, it still drove brilliantly, and the Metro’s (sorry, 100’s) K-Series engines knocked all rivals into a cocked hat. "
..um, so if it drove brialliantly, er, why is it in a top 10 worst cars list? Sloppy journalism. Do these guys even read over what they write?
And, ford Ka, iconic? wtf? Its an awful, awful, awful car. I drove one a while ago. Driving position is nasty, doors feel like theyre made of paper. I have no idea why Ford made them- the fiesta was far better, and only a few inches longer!

I name the ford fiesta RS turbo as one of the worst cars...having owned one i can honestly say it was a right bodged up ford effort.
Basically a standard fiesta with far too much power for it's handling and just a few extra suspension bits stuck on...I enjoyed it while I had it but it should have been so much more.
At least with the metro whatever engine it had in it could still corner like it was on rails and didnt have any nasty surprises when letting off on roundabouts or trying to put down power in the wet.

This is the inherent problem with journalism, in particular that of an automotive nature - often articles are based on the opinions of an individual.
The writer does not like the Rover 800. So what? Actually, if you read the article he doesn't actually claim that it was a bad car, just misplaced in terms of marketing and appeal.
With regard to the "oh it's a Rover, so must be rubbish" comments, I know the writer has owned at least two Rovers and thought very highly of them.

That's just a badly written article with a load of throwaway remarks to make it readable.
To put the 800 Coupe in the same league as the Renault Safrane and Lada Samara is ridiculous and it looks like the guy has completely misunderstood what the 800 is all about.
I do agree about the 100 though, cracking car mechanically-speaking, but it's packaging left a lot to be desired, which is coming from someone who has owned one.
I like the look of the Caddy STS, but 300BHP and a mountain-load of V8 torque through the front wheels is just typical of American engineering.
I wouldn't take it too seriously...
