SOLD. . .220 Coupe Turbo For spares Or Repair. . . SOLD

Post by mickwhitworth »

Well, After waiting :o 3 months :o on someone to come forward with the money for my rover coupe, i have decided im not willing to wait any longer and the first person to turn up at the door with the money can take this away.

on offer is my rover turbo in tahiti Blue, on an "L" Reg (1994) with 94k on the clock, it is still TAXED till the end of June, but has NO MOT.

there is at present one known problem with the car (aside from the fact its not been started nor turned a wheel in around 7-8 months) and that is that the NSF CV joint is knocking when turning. there is a brand new CV joint included in the sale.

now for the bad news, there is a problem with the engine, i have not had it 100% diagnosed, but it is definately one of two things: a Dropped Valve, or a worn piston ring. I personally hope its the former, but to be completely honest i think in myself it is the latter, so this car would stil be an ideal candidate for anyone wishing to do a forged build!!!! I did have a compression test done last year after the problem occurred and it was showing more or less 0 on piston 2, cant rightly remember the others but they were all more or less 120-130iirc.

Any of you who remembers the history of the car will remember my headaches last year, i had a auxiliary belt shear on me which got behind the timing belt cowling and skipped it over a tooth at 70MPH, causing a load of bent valves. i had the head professionally rebuilt at a cost of almost 1k by west of scotland engineering services. this is why i think a dropped valve is not to blame, as the car has only done around 500 miles since the rebuild when this problem presented itself. i also had a problem of the car running really smokey, so had a new turbo fitted (T25, but new), this did not solve the problem so the old turbo will be included in the sale, as i now think there is hee haw wrong with it. after much tooing and frooing with the garage who did the works to my car (i wante them to accept liability that they had done something wrong as its never really been Right since they had it. they refused to accept liability and with the passing of my father id rather wash my hands of the whole thing, it was our thing to work on together and with him gone i just honestly dont want to see it anymore, i know that sounds daft but im sure some of you will understand what i mean.

unfortunately i had to buy a diseasal last year after my father passed away and i took on more responsibility with looking after my mam, so this got put on the back burner, but i really need it gone now.

so i am offering this as Spares/Repair, in the hope someone buys it to get it back on the road, hopefully it doesnt go to some cretin who wants to break it and put the engine in yet another ZR.

here is what is included with the car, as i am selling off all my spares i have along with the car and leaving the rover scene (for how long, who knows :D ):

rover coupe turbo with unknown engine problem (as mentioned above)
old turbo unit off car (which i now think is ok, not too much play in shaft etc)
genuine roof bag with a spare glass roof.
car has at present a OMC steering wheel fitted, but the original is in the boot too and will be included.
also has a forge BOV fitted, again the standard item is there and will be included.
K@n cone filter included, as is the standard airbox.
currently has a set of 16" hairpins fitted, all with good tread, and named tyres (pirelli i think, will check for anyone who cares)
standard 15" wheels also included, pretty rough could do with a refurb if im honest.
anything else ive got lying but cant think of offhand, as i say, if its for a rover, its yours :D

the first person who wants all this and hands me £300 quid, no offers can take the lot, even if you only want some of the stuff you can easily recoup your money by breaking it.

also worth mentioning the seats are all in really good nick, i fitted them after i bought the car as it came with grey leather seats but i preferred the black so fitted the black half leather seats to it.

also has a set of brand new car mats fitted, and a brand new boost gauge.

hopefully you made it to the end, sorry its a bit all over the place was trying to do it all from memory, ill add more info as i remember and try and neaten it up so it makes a bit of sense.

cheers for reading

Mick

Cant believe youve had all this hassle with her, if my memory serves me right I think I sold you a set of ZS 180 brakes for her last spring, drove up and met you on the hard shoulder of the M74...I do believe that was the start of what appears to have been a complete ball ache.

If its the same car, it was very tidy when I saw it so this is a bargain people!

Hey roverchris, you did indeed sell me a ZS180 brake setup, which i shifted onto a local up here (Ravinder) to free up funds for the nightmare.

as i say been a total nightmare, one thing after another, just one of those cars ive not had any luck with, be sad to see it go but hey, im sure ill get another one day, just cant seem to stay away from them

and yes its the same car, cant argue for 300 bucks for whats included i think, surely will be of use to someone as it will break my heart to give it to the scrap man.
