Outlook.com email inbox font blurred etc

Post by LondonMX »

I have a free outlook.com email account and i have some questions so hopefully some other people have used it and can give me some advice. i am using a bog standard 15" desktop pc monitor and a desktop computer -

Why does the font in the inbox look like cr*p (its all fuzzy and bitty??)

default size is huge and why are there no zoom or slider or font size options within outlook to zoom out? (I have been using the zoom out function on firefox aurora to some avail but it really isnt a perfect solution).

I know its a free email service but i would expect something vaguely slick, customizable, and nice looking.

the banner ads on the right taking up space are annoying too as there is such limited space available.

how come all the text/font on every other website is as sharp as a pin but on the outlook email account it is as sharp as using a sideways crayon?

I really dont know why it would just be this website (a crucially important resource as it is looking at email messages for a large amount of time, so it is an annoying issue, so I am hoping other people have managed to come up with a solution :)

Is cleartype enabled ? Windows will smooth fonts by using a technique like anti-aliasing (most cameras use a filter over the sensor which smooths jagged lines) but it loses definition in some things. Try turning it off and see if it helps.
As for the size, there will be a setting for the text somewhere, just may take a little while to find it.

Hi thanks, I have changed XP to cleartype and that has largely improved the look of the text by about 90% although it is still not as perfect as every other website. i think that i disabled cleartype originally as it makes everything else on the computer look a bit too bold, sharp and severe. (well the opposite lol)

ive been reading this which is quite interesting -

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 5f87882ca4

i think that there are options to change the font when writing a message but thats about it.

the font that has been chosen for the main inbox is terrible and I cant find any zoom or size features but ill keep looking.

unless you have seen it with your own two eyes you cannot comprehend what it is like

I downloaded 'Windows Live Mail 2009' and it is much better than accessing it on outlook.com

It is set-up using an http server connection (will this be usable in the long term? or could MS alter
the settings or anything so that it doesn't work in live mail 2009 anymore?)

Finally, does accessing it from 'Windows Live Mail 2009' count as logging into/accessing
it once every 365 days to keep the account active?

Thanks for all your help.
