New Apple iOS 5

Post by < KEVIN > »

Has anyone updated their iphone/ipad to the new operating system? I tired to download and install it overnight, woke up this morning expected it to be done, to my dissapointment its was still downloading with 22 hours remaining

I don't have the best internet connection, (sky connect) as its impossible to use my internet to surf while its downloading and bugger waiting over a day that sucks.

You can't pause and resume the download either!

Still it's better than having a blackberry my misses has been depressed for 2 days for lack of BBM

I'm just trying to download it now for my 3gs. Will let you know how I get on.

Edit

Uploaded and to be honest can't see the difference. I can't get Icloud to work even following the instructions it leaves.

And apart from it adding some other apps that I won't use and can't remove from the phone.

Doesn't autocorrect work by correcting misspelt words?

i.e. If you type wesnedsday, autocorrect will change it to the correct spelling?

If so, you must have spelt from as phrom for it to autocorrect itself to phone

Sounds more like a PIBCAK error if you ask me :P
Can't post in the Classifieds forum? Take a look at this

Seems like apple servers cant handle the load. This is what happens when you put all your eggs in one basket. MYy Galaxy S2 will get Android 4 from wherever I choose, probably a custom ROM with my own additions. Its nice to be free.

Some of the things I've noticed about the new O/S are

When typing an email or text the typing lags behind what I'm actually typing and I'm not a fast text person but still it's like it's thinking about it.

I've found some apps when I click on them it goes to open the program and then returns after a second or 2 back to the home screen meaning I have to select the program again and then there is no problem.

That you can't delete the news stand application as I won't use it or even put it in a useless apps folder I have for stuff I obviously will never use or can delete.

That really is all the small things I've found so far apart from having to upload the operating system twice to be able to get everything back on as it should have been.

The o/s is an upgrade on the ios 4 software it was running.

It's not an upgrade on the handset just the operating software. It's akin to upgrading from windows xp to vista.

The problem is if you don't have the right processor then you are going to run into problems.

The new phone has a new chipset which is vastly improved compared to the other I phones.

On one review they say that the os5 for the 3gs and I phone 4 have improved the phones but they still lag behind the new 4s because the phone was designed specifically to run on os5 where as the other older phones are having their operating software adapted to work with their chipsets.

Still thinking about a Galaxy Nexus myself, but its not really an upgrade to my Galaxy S2, which is still the most powerful phone around. Its only advantage is the 720P screen, and Android 4.0 (which the S2 will get soon enough anyway).

Bumping old thread!

I haven't upgraded my iPhone 4 yet to ios5, same with iPad, can't really be that bothered.
As much as people enjoy the banter between some os's, for me it's about price. I bought my iPhone 4 for less than 280 quid, less than 3 months old, can't complain, it does what I want it to. iPad I purchased last year for less than 170 quid!
A lot of people think that apple stuff is expensive, it may be, but their new devices are seemingly priced all the same, like iPad 2 when released was same price as iPad 1.
Looking back, I remember the nokia n95 setting people back over 600 quid to buy, and the nokia n97 was around 550, so if you buy a new iOS/android handset consider how cheap it is compared to less than 5 years ago. I didn't intend to buy Apple, but at the right rock bottom prices I purchased my phone and tablet for I'm not complaining one bit.
People can't take these things too seriously, I mean, how many of us may have been flashing the latest nokia, Samsung , lg , Sony Ericsson motorola , back in the day? Now it's bought all our minds to become so focused on the os's rather than what the brand offers.
you can say all day that apple may be over secure, or that it holds you into using iTunes, but we could rant about how fragmented android is, and how the same os's on 2 different handsets differs so much, c'est la vie!!!

I wrote this on my iPad, no issues with auto correct! :P :P :P
