Very few topics get locked on Rovertech Rob. When they are locked it is because people can't make the effort to get on with each other, or because they have broken the rules. Not because "we don't agree" with your viewpoint.
If we lock a thread we will get at least one person cry it is locked, if we don't we will get at least one person cry that it isn't.
Personally, if I locked every thread we disagreed in, you wouldn't have many threads left.

Still we try and be as democratic and open as possible. Not that we get any thanks for it mind.
No-one was doing any harm, were just showing that what we did was no worse than what he did to other people.
"He started it sir!" - Seriously? This is not year seven. Are we not supposed to be grown ups? Maybe I'm just being optimistic here.
FYI, Munky was, like yourself, what I like to call a "colourful" individual. When he overstepped the line he was reprimanded, disciplined on occasion and given equally pithy lectures (a fact I'm sure he will happily recount in detail). Also like yourself, he was allowed to remain and express his views, even when they didn't follow mine or the rest of the evil, world dominating mods. Infact given some of the comments he passed in my direction, I can't read the term "cliquey" with a straight face. That said, he was as straight talking as they come. He stopped using the forum of his own free will, for his own personal reasons - as anybody is free to do. He did so without any drama, which deserves respect. His account is still enabled and he is welcome to return.
I do not see the benefit in raking over old feuds just so a new argument can be started and points scored on a topic that is long forgotten and irrelevant. For that reason alone, I fully support the locking of that thread, this thread, or any other thread on the subject. In addition, as Dan pointed out, creating a new topic to carry on the argument about a locked topic is in breach of the forum rules.
Maybe you consider it jovial banter, maybe you discussed it via PM. However we must judge on appearance and lock any thread that appears to be descending into a personal argument or breaking the rules. If you wish to avoid this, you should amend your posting style to make it A) obvious when you are joking or/and B) less abrasive in your humour.
We have jobs, we have lives. We are not paid to sit here all day and debate what you may or may not mean on a topic about a thread posted a year ago. If you have to take it close enough to the line to get it locked in the first place, you are in no position to criticise.
It is, quite frankly, both a concern and disappointment to me when I log on to Rovertech to see so much effort put in to tripe such as this thread - when so little is put into anything useful. I am starting to think my firm but fair approach to running the place was naive and incorrect. Perhaps infact, we
should start living up to this nazi moderator reputation and follow other forums in banning anybody we "don't agree with" without warning. Life would certainly be simpler for us, and maybe people would be more tempted to be constructive rather than spending their evenings trying to annoy each other on the internet and argue with the people that provide the free service they use.
This thread has no purpose other than to flaunt the forum rules, stir up bad feeling, annoy the members of another forum and waste the time of the members and staff of this forum. It has therefore run its course.
It is only the internet, so I'm sure you won't mind. If you do, then I have 78 threads that need sorting out, and a lot of stuff that needs typing up so perhaps you would like to give your keyboard a workover on something beneficial to the forum, rather than something that isn't.
