what a day

Post by Marty »

Went into work this morning finished installing the engine I'm working on into the dyno cell and then fired the engine up all figures and reading are fine and run it upto operating temp then switched engine off. Went in checked all levels and for any leaks all fine so shut the cell back up and fired the engine up till upto operating temp and all ambient temps and engine temps had stabilised and started to take instant logs of the data all going well then needed to do some 60sec logs and the system was showing a fuel weight problem I flicked over screens to see the fuel weight going up and down like a whores draws so with the engine running pulled hard on the cell door to open it as the fans cause a huge vacume and to my horror all this diesel came gushing out I quickly shut the door and the fans held the fuel in while I shut the engine down quick and assembled the spill kit I built a wall round the door looked a bit like some scenes on the news with sand bags in the floods and then switched the fans of and opened the door it was quite deep in diesel it was everywhere but managed to contain it to the cell. So after 4 hours with 2 of us cleaning it up one bloke on the vacume and me in there with a mop it was all up and to our shock nearly 100 litres of diesel was removed from the cell floor lucky it was not petrol or there would of defo been a fire. The fault was traced to a ball valve that released on the fuel return line and the fault how now been rectified.

And the other half commented on the smell of diesel when I walked in

She was even less impressed when I rebuilt that gearbox for you as weather was not good and had other stuff where I would normally do them so rebuilt it on the worktop in kitchen  she came back to all the gears and syncros all over the worktop was the ideal hight for the job she never let me do another in there was gutted as kettle was near by for a cuppa

It was on the fuel heater that is part of the dyno cell. They said they have seen worse block A got completely flooded with petrol there is 10 cells in there so imagine that one
