Buy a car, V5 never turns up?
What's the next move?
I bought my 618is at least 4 weeks ago, the dealer said he's sent it off. (he gave me the n/k/s ) , he says he has sent it, which DVLA department do I need and is this going to cost me?

Re: Buy a car, V5 never turns up?
did you physically see the whole logbook, dealer probably bought the car off someone and punted it on before it was even registered to them
Re: Buy a car, V5 never turns up?
if a dealer buys a car, he doesnt need to send the v5 off. he keeps the logbook and gives the seller the yellow oart of the logbook.
Re: Buy a car, V5 never turns up?
I saw the V5, no prohs there,
he said that because the car has tax he needs to send it off with my details and I get the N/K/S,
that's the last I've seen of it,
which department of the DVLA do I need to speak to?

The official line with V5s is 4-6 week turn around.
In my experience they have never taken that long though.

I suppose if the DVLA really wanted to take the p*ss then they're still within their 6 week limit,
but what's this about being flashed? I'm out of date on these things, it's my birthday today, yay, no jelly anymore, just extra big bills so I hate it, Bah'humbug, so anyway, what's being flashed about?

Speed camera. If he thinks you're racking up points on a car still registered to him, he'll be pretty sharp about un-registering it.
Two weeks for two cars for me earlier this year, but remember start of March was new registration.

You need a V62 form and yes it's going to cost you. The princely sum of £25 sterling.

PFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTT,
p*ss,
ok, well, what must be must be and all that. No point crying over spilt milk ect,
that really is annoying though,
I'd better wait the full 6 weeks, but it's nice to know I'm going to be 25 out of pocket
that's about 4 litres of BP 102, lol,

V62 is not applicable - you have not lost the V5, or had it stolen.
Telephone DVLA. Tell them you recently bought the car, the seller assures you he sent the completed V5 off some time ago, but you haven't received your new document.
They will tell you what to do. You shouldn't have to pay a penny.

But I *DID* phoned the DVLA when I never received teh v5 back when I bought my old GTi - Was told to use V62 and stump up the fee. 3 weeks after I sent it off I had my crisp new v5.Craig wrote:V62 is not applicable - you have not lost the V5, or had it stolen.

It even says to do exactly that on the DVLA website!
By all means phone them and tell them the situation, but I can almost say for certain that they'll point you to a v62.DVLA Website wrote: If you buy a used vehicle - seller does not have a registration document or certificate
If the seller does not have a V5 registration document or V5C registration certificate, you should register the vehicle in your name by using form V62 'application for a registration certificate'. You can get one by download from the vehicle forms link below or from any Post Office® branch or a DVLA local office. DVLA will then send you a new registration certificate in your name.

Re: Buy a car, V5 never turns up?
Have you not got the green bit of the v5?? that has the same value as a log book and these days you dont need log book unless your selling the car! you can still buy road tax with your old exsisting road tax all they will do is scan the bar code on it however dont fill that form as of yet and pay 25 quid. if the car has been in a bump you mite have to get a VIC, but jus ring dvla up first. that would cause a delay in your log book being sent.
sometimes dealers wait till they got a few log books together and post them off in one go, so sit tight at min and hold on!!

More than a delay, they won't send V5 or tax reminder til the VIC marker is lifted.Rizzy wrote: if the car has been in a bump you mite have to get a VIC, but jus ring dvla up first. that would cause a delay in your log book being sent.

Re: Buy a car, V5 never turns up?
OK ... I'll clarify. Irrespective of whether or not the seller ever had the V5 and/or sent it off, you tell DVLA he did. V5s go missing en-route all the time, or even get mislaid at DVLA. If you insist the seller had the V5 and that it was completed and sent, they should not ask you to pay the fee for a replacement log book.Reef wrote: But I *DID* phoned the DVLA when I never received teh v5 back when I bought my old GTi - Was told to use V62 and stump up the fee. 3 weeks after I sent it off I had my crisp new v5.

And yes, I speak from experience too (including very recent).

I've got the new keepers section with the barcode, but I thought that was only valid for 3 months for the purpose of buying tax? or at least that's what the post office told me yonks ago, so that might be different nowRizzy wrote:Have you not got the green bit of the v5?? that has the same value as a log book and these days you dont need log book unless your selling the car! you can still buy road tax with your old exsisting road tax all they will do is scan the bar code on it

Yep, although you're normally left to date it yourself, so if left blank I guess it lasts 3 months from whenever you choose.
