why make a road car do over 150mph?

For things that don't fit into a category. i.e. non-motor related subjects.

why make a road car do over 150mph?

Post by Roverman »

I'm confused. Why make a road car capable of speeds over 150mph if when you're caught doing it you get an instant jail snetence?

What makes me wonder more, is how he actually got convicted, surely the case was 'unsafe' from the start, I reckon a
good lawyer would have put doubt on all the evidence given that an impossible speed was put in as evidence IYSWIM

There is no doubt that he was speeding but maybe the whole thing should have been chucked out due to the faulty reading .
Mind, I bet he was leaned on to admit to a lower speed first.

I do wonder when cars will be restricted in the UK. There will be a time when all new cars are limited to 100 surely, in the name of 'safety' and 'environmentalism'.

It's called the reduction of the national speed limit, which looks like it will be going ahead next year - what a pile of xxxxx, my landy doesn't even get into top gear until 56mph so how does that help with fuel economy and emissions???

The other day I watched someone overtake on a single carriageway. The car they were overtaking was doing about 55mph and the overtaker seemed determined not to exceed the speedlimit. It was quote worrying watched him sit alongside as traffic was approaching from the opposite direction :|

I thought to myself: "This is how it'd be with speed limiters". I can't see how that wouldn't result in a big increase in crashes.

Speed is needed. Or more importantly, acceleration.

Round here in the deepest darkest fens, we have loads of farm machines on the road clogging everything up, we do have A roads, and they even venture onto those and continue their clogging effect. It's fair enough, they need to get to where they're going, makes the world go round ect ect, but sometimes we need to get past them by hard acceleration and speed to avoid any problems with oncoming traffic, so 40/50mph zones have to be broken to be safe, aswell as 60mph sometimes must be broken to be safe. Just my opinion, but I have to deal with it daily
