Anyone been caught out by the new tax-insurance law yet?

For things that don't fit into a category. i.e. non-motor related subjects.

Anyone been caught out by the new tax-insurance law yet?

Post by lennox1185 »

I know we discussed this a lot last year, so I thought a quick catch up was in order. If you missed last years numerous threads, the law states a taxed vehicle must be insured. This makes it difficult for genuine people that buy a new car, swap their insurance over, then sell the old car. Cashing the tax back and claiming Sorn makes a car difficult to sell.

So I was curious to hear if anybody has been on the tough end of this yet?

Please don't confuse this issue with people not renewing tax, not declaring a sorn and getting a fine.

I've just got an MG ZT and my Saab now sits on the drive with no insurance but IS taxed. Hopefully not for long though.

Same boat, Got the M3 on the drive, taxed and no insurance. I will be re insuring it within 30 days so hopefully wont have time for them to crack on.

If they do i shall claim i sent the tax disc off "weeks ago"

Well the aim was to keep taxed but unisured vehicles off the road or parked up on the road, i personally think if its taxed and off the road who gives a dam...

But thats my opinion

Its computer based though now. Any car with tax and no insurance will just have the registered keep posted a fine.

You get a written warning before the fine.
I think if you did it more than once though you would get a fine straight away
