er...no.
been like that for ages, weeks.
was ok at first then dropped off. then it would be fixed by rebooting the router. so i changed the router, i think that worked breifly.
what makes it worse is the speed test starts out at 200 odd k.
used to get 21ms ping and 6100 odd speed, i even complained to demon about that... why am i connecting at 8100mbps and not getting the speeds i should be...they couldnt help.

Virgin Media, (was Telewest/Blueyonder) so on cable modem. We're meant to be getting a free upgrade to 8 or 10 (can't remember) which should mean I will start actually getting 4 or 5?
I also often wonder what the point of all this mega fast broadband is when a lot of servers don't seem to support that speed anyway!

I remember doing one of them at uni where my room is hooked up to a proxy, the upload was around 5 times the download speed I think the download was around 100kbps or something pathetic like that, which really doesn't surprise me after the ridiculous times it takes to buffer anything (4.5 hours to buffer Layercake!!!).
Normally I would gloat with speeds like these , but as I'm giving Vermin Media the heave-ho it'll be a while before I get speeds like these on ADSL (esp as nowhere in Northern Ireland has ADSL2+ yet)
I suspect a lot of ISPs are slow.. I've just been upgraded to 8mb on BT and actually was getting 6.1mb on sat. Wasn't going to moan about that tho, I'm used to 2mb.
That's crazy slow tho Paul.. I'd be moaning like hell about that, if not leaving them as they're not providing the service they claim to.

2011 Mazda 6 Sport 2.2 Diesel - For the days I want torque and economy
My transfer rate is a joke, Im with Toucan and on Speedtest.net it never goes above 2Mb, I live about 500 Meters from the 8Mb exchange and when I used to be a Free-online Business (Now Plus Net) customer I was getting around 7.8Mb on Speedtest.net
So its time to move Broadband again, Moving to Demon Business as I want the faster upload speeds
thats my result, using the so called "16mb" sky service, which is a giant pile of home aloner just like the router they supplied. i dont pay for it though so i suppose i cant complain
I have been bitching for agents about the BT speeds which even recently have felt very bad (when last I checked was less than a quarter of the 8mb one would hope for as absolute max -- now looking a little better. Upload speed not great though.
As above, all of this "up to" stuff is simply misleading and mis-selling the product as you would need to be based at the exhange to see these speeds (with a following wind).

exactly...!
if it was running anywhere near the speed it sould be, then i wouldnt have a problem. this is just unusable...even web pages take an age to download, youtube?...forget it.
A load of ISP's are starting to throttle connection speeds based on usage. They are targeting users of peer to peer software and other non-interactive traffic, and mainly in peak times.
I know that Virgin are one of those providers as i now have to run my torrents through the night to get a reasonable speed. In fact most ISP's are now filtering traffic th way.
use Bethere.co.uk on a 24mbit connection at around 22-23mbits in reality. On big websites like nvidia or bbc can see a substained download rate of about 2.2mb/s.
However theres certainly still more websites out there that simply dont delivery at more than what seems 50kb/s
M8 i've done that a hundred times and had the engineers out more times than i can remember ... everything goes swimmingly for about a week and then it drops again ...

And is that their cable network (used to be Telewest/Blueyonder) or their ADSL?
