What was your highest ever insurance quote?

For things that don't fit into a category. i.e. non-motor related subjects.

What was your highest ever insurance quote?

Post by Vard66 »

1:The company who produced the quote,
2:The sum quoted,
3:The car it was a quote for,
4:Your age at the time,
5: Your driving experience at the time,
6: Your NCB at the time,
7: Miscelaneous, e.g: mods declared, named drivers etc...

Two reasons. First and foremost, for amusement purposes.
Secondly to see if there is a general trend, or lower/higher average over several customers for different insurers.

Insurer - CIS
Age 22
NCB 1
Rover 216 coupe (std)
TPFT
4 yrs experience (no incidents or claims)
£1980ish

I had only paid £850 in my first year, so I laughed at them. They seemed quite surprised.

Ended up going with Flux that year, cant remember how much it was, somewhere around £720 I think.

Quotes vary sooo much though. The ATR costs me £600 a year FC now with elephant, yet when I got a quote via sky insurance (who lots of ATR owners find the cheapest) they wanted to charge me £900. That's a huge difference really.
Getting into the realms of cheap insurance next year.. turn 25. £450 for a group 17 car thank you very much.

So glad I never bothered getting a car til I was 21. Must have saved about £3k+ on insurance.

girlfirend got quoted £5k on a corsa 1.4 aged 20 :D

norwhich union still want 2k + from me on an XR3i ... i'm now 30, had my licence 11 years and have 3 years NCB.

some insurers often don't like your area it seems and will just quote you silly on anything.

1:No idea, it was aaages ago.
2:£4500 (ish)
3:Bmw e30 325i sport
4:17 (well, it was worth a shot!)
5: 2 weeks.
6: errr....
7: It had 17's, was lowered and had engine mods... but I was given it free! (oh, and it had been rolled by the previous owner)

I was young and stupid, so I just drove it anyway... with the tax disc from my other car (a sierra) in it..

Two weeks later it went pop on the dual carriageway. The engine 'mods' included a hankie stretched over the intake as a filter... the hankie got sucked into the engine and it lunched itself.

Cue lots of smoke (enough to cover both carriageways), police turning up and me getting a big fine and a ban for driving without insurance and fraudulent use of a tax disc.

Suffice to say that for a long time after that my insurance premiums werent much better than the one I got for the 325.... lesson well and truly learnt.

1:The company who produced the quote - Greenlight
2:The sum quoted - £1400
3:The car it was a quote for - Import Subaru WRX STI4 Type R
4:Your age at the time - 26
5: Your driving experience at the time - performance car (2.0 turbo for 3 years prior)
6: Your NCB at the time - 6 years
7: Miscelaneous, e.g: mods declared, named drivers etc... - exhaust, wheels, filter, boost controller, 255 @ wheels.

Two reasons. First and foremost, for amusement purposes.
Secondly to see if there is a general trend, or lower/higher average over several customers for different insurers.[/quote]

however I reckon the coupe works out worse

27, nigh on 28 now, 1000 mile per annum limited mileage, £520 FC, 8 years NCB, 11 points in last 5 years, all mods declared to nearly 190% of standard power.

I think I got this one...

1) I forget, it was so long ago (1991)
2) £20,000
3) Sierra Sapphire Cosworth Rouse Sport 302R
4) 27
5) Driving an XR2 and Rover 414 SLi at the time

Back in the bad old days when Blackbird Leys was on TV every night and I could have got insurance on a 911 Turbo cheaper! One of the few that would actually quote at the time.
