stoolball.co.uk was registered in 2000, so seems like a real story...

Definitely for real. We play a stoolball tournament once a year here at my company's sports and social club.

This years BBC joke was the flying penguins. Pretty good one, had footage and everything.

just saw a behind the scenes on the beebs flyig pengiun story- looked like the spent a lot of money for it- green screen work, and some serious 3d animation.

Bit of a waste of money, but it was funny, and probably serves as a nice advert of what the beebs visual fx departments can do

I still think the best april fool i've seen was in the sun newspaper a few years ago..

a full page with an apology saying how..

eurocrats had condemned the polo mint as defective for having a hole in it.
They were being forced to create the mints as a complete disc but were selling kits cheaply to loyal customers so they could punch out the centres themselves.

Can't find a copy on the net anywhere but very believably done and bloody hillarious.

Weston mercury did one a few years back, saying that there were plans to move Steep Holme island 200 metres to the left. Best part were the letters the following week from people who objected to a landmass being moved
