No brakes at 110 :yikes:
He was outta there pretty sharpish wasn't he! Just watched it at work with no sound and ffw'd to the end to see what happened. The view from outside is a bit mad, taking outbraking a bit far

The guy isn't exactly a good driver around a track, take a look, he takes a different line nearly all the time, i reckon he left it to late on the brakes, a rush of adrenaline maybe as it was for 1st place & ended taking out the 1st place car as well

I think he's a danger to anyone else on the track TBH Grant, took some girl off last time in her pug.
I have a mate that drives exactly the same way, feckin dangerously & fast, there is a difference in having a good driving style & going balls out to win IMO of course.

that was an awesome vid as was the previous one where he crashed.
It does seem that the red evo was faster in the corners but on the straights I think norris had the edge. Are there any rules to modifications in that race? That limits engine power? or is it just who has more money?
The grip on those things must be extreme!

Too much power imo .Undoubtedly a great driver but on the edge to much.
The wear on tyres and brakes must be huge driving that pace.

As above we was there watching Tony harrison in his tomcat in the LMA euro saloons, we stayed to watch Gary in his EVO as he's and ex tomcat racer, both cars were 600 plus BHP the white one had an extra 40 bhp if I remember correctly, it was a cracking race, we though he had just made one really bad error and over cooked the courner, but on watching the vid something drastic went wrong, the brakes going really does make sence at that speed there could have been some bad injuires, both cars were trashed, Gary's car more so that the other, Deffo re-shell for both cars!!

i wasn't gonig to comment but tbh everyone is far to quick to say things like 'driving beyond his ability'.
Peaple all have different driving styles and there is a reason we aren't all F1 drivers. Mr. Norris seems to have a very agressive driving style but at the same time knows the limits of his car. On this occasion i would say he was on the attack went for his brakes and they failed. He then attempted to steer off the track to avoid a bigger crash that could have resulted in injoury, or worse, at those speeds.
I would say he got caught by a bit of bad luck. He may not be a true proffecional driver, but to drive with that much commitment into and out of a corner requires a fair ammount of skill most observers would not appreciate until they actually participated in a race. Other race drivers will have their own opinions and ones about him being inconsistent through corners may have some truth but thats down to technique which is only learned through track/race expereince. And the ocasional crash. Comparing this accident to the other is not fair as i think this is an entirely different situation.
My 2p.

gerbilhead - I suggest you keep your bull*hit opinions to yourself as you know nothing. The video we have incar (which will be posted soon) shows me trying in vain to brake 3 times before making a decision to take to the infield in a attempt to avoid a disaster! You can eat your words when you see it........
What a loser, he completely blames everything on other things and doesn't take any responsibility.

To be fair you can hear him hit the pedal a few times and nothing happens, imo it was good thinking trying to steer infield and avoid a serious accident, just unfortunate he took someone else out with him.
From what I can gather the brakes were taken off "bogey" with a really decent fluid so should've been up to the job, just strange how they did absolutely nothing so quickly??

Just think if you were that poor bugger that was hit in the first crash or the second crash(I see a theme here) he hasn't got a very good name from the trackday people I know.

Obviously not, very clicky one sided forum, and as far as norris threatening people makes me think he's a nob .
Business wise maybe it is a good idea to get a pro to drive for norris designs as suggested on their forum before someone goes bust / gets hurt.

They are saying you have to pass a test to get your race licence, which is true, but you should build up to racer of 700bhp.
I got the same response from race drivers when I started racing, there were saying a 200bhp Tomcat for a first race car is ott.
It is like a 17year old passing there test and getting into scooby sti wrx.
The castle combe series has been going for years with the same old drivers, who know how each other drives, then theres a new bloke to the series and crashs twice in 3 races, and takes out other peoples cars.
The regualars in that series won't like it.

I agree if he felt the brakes were fading a few corners before i would have aproached the corners a bit more slowly, but he did make a good desision to point it towards the infield.
I agree with the comment above building up through lower bhp cars and working your way up.

I would have thought the outfield would have been a better place to be. Knowing that a corner was there and due to the speed I'm sure he knew that he'd be across the track again at some point. Perhaps he hoped that grass would be a better speed retardant than gravel ?200coupe wrote:I agree if he felt the brakes were fading a few corners before i would have aproached the corners a bit more slowly, but he did make a good desision to point it towards the infield.

im unsure as to why some of you are saying hes a bad driver? hes clearly not, hes an aggressive driver which IMO makes him a good one as long as he is skillfull--i bet we have all seen prats in cars who put there foot down to the floor and dont know what the feck there doing, clearly that is not the case for this guy, and to think on the level in which he did with no brakes makes a very competant and actually safe driver....I very much doubt that alot of you would have been able to do that if your honest with yourselves,

Its brake failure, thats motorsport - its dangerous !!
I would say it shows hoe important a good techincal support team are as important as the skill of the driver and the car.
The fluid used should only be used once - swapped out after every run - it appears it wasnt.
A mistake that will not be made again and no injuries, and i am sure Simon will ensure all damages are covered.
You need luck as well as skill in motorsport.
