phew..was i lucky !

theres a lad lives round the corner from me with a civic (b16a2) very smart and pretty quick..anyway , he works at nissan same as me and on friday night i was cruising home on the A19 when i see his (hid) headlight aproaching my rear end, i let him pass, wait a few seconds while i thought about it then floored it
i went passed him pretty easy and got about quarter of a mile in front then slowed to around 60-65.
then i see his lights again, gaining fast so i thought i would have a little play and selected fourth
it was then that i saw another car right up the civic's tailpipe and thought "two for the price of one"
so i'm doing about 80 in fourth ready to nail it, the civic comes past and i hit the go pedal (he must have been well over 100) then the other car which was "racing" the civic turns his blue flashy lights on
if he had'nt put his lights on i would have been the one getting pulled over but he had the civic about half a mile down the road, i went passed them doing 65
hav'nt seen the lad at work but people say he was clocked doing 119mph, poor sod
this story is totally fiction and made up !

Then, with any luck, for those of us who take more responsibility, you will be next for the tug

I thought it was only instant ban if it was double the speed limit?

Have you never broken the speed limit ?
Never drove a little too hard ?
I do not drive dangerously, it's just good sometimes to drive hard (when safe to do so) we all do it just some dont admit to it
The comment you made about "with any luck you'll be next for the pull" was a bit harsh seing as you know nothing of my nature and yes i do know what you do for a living but jobs aside i've done nothing against you.
I just like driving....cut me some slack

Driving fast on a clear road in good, well lit conditions is one thing. Racing another car at night on a public road is just plain stupid. Keep the racing for the track, you got lucky this time, next time you could get pulled, or worse, kill someone.

as for that road i know it very well, drive up and down it about 4 times a day in my work van, it's a very fast stretch of road during the day too.

it is a very fast stretch of road but after 11ish it is empty, it doesn't condone speeding but christ. if theres a road round here to do it on thats probly the safest. i'll wait for the backlash but i dont think i know anyone that hasn't had a race or nailed it on the 19, i know i'm guilty ov having my 216 GSI on the limiter at 125/7

and my zaffy at 115 on the limiter( now that was some scary sh1t)

again

Whats the point, you all seem to be law abiding angels who jump at the chance to put people down for driving enthusiastically

i know speeding on a public road is wrong but when it comes down to the truth there's people that speed and there's liar's so please go and jump on someone else's back as mine is starting to creak

here mate i wasnt jumping on your back( its probly hairy and i go for the waxed type

).
after the" condoning speeding but christ" comment i meant to say give the lad a break
how often do you sit at 70 only to be overtook by a rep mobile with his jacket hanging in the back???
people speed its a fact of life, us humans enjoy the thrill of being in control but only just
why else are we all into turbos and making them go as fast as poss
if were on the truth buzz its very rare that i sit under the limit.
i deliver pizzas on a night so that makes me as bad as a taxi driver is most eyes, people want food hot not delivered at 30 mph an hour later

Not in the least. The owner of a certain gold Ti being the first to admit to having made a mistake
enthusiatically
Also, anti-socially, irresponsibly, dangerously.
Putting the lives of others at risk. I'm making a personal comment here. I don't want to end up dead because of your actions, neither do I want anybody I know or care for to end up the same way.
I don't even want YOU to end up that way either
Anyway, you know my personal opinion now and I, yours so no point in going over it.
OTOH, in a non-controversial and purely objective aside...
You may well have been VERY lucky. In fact, your friend will be lucky if he merely faces the prospect of a speeding charge. In my view, there is potential in the incident for other charges.
If the Police spotted exactly what was going on and are of the opinion that racing was taking place, they will have noted your details with a view to charges of dangerous driving which means a lot more than just a disqualification and a fine.

I wont get involved in the whole holier than thou bullsh*t argument because EVERYONE speeds. Just some people dont get caught. Thats my opinion and no amount of 'oooh but I never speed cos its dangerous' lies will change my mind. End of.
But I hope you feel guilty that you encouraged him to race and he got caught.
Its all your fault.
Oh and there is no 'instant ban' for any speed. It is down to the discretion of the courts whether you get a fixed penalty, go to court, get fined, get banned etc etc. In ALL cases. The instant ban over ***mph is a myth.
I have been caught speeding at more than 100 mph on the motorway. Is a ban automatic?
Although the Police attempt to resolve most offences by way of a Fixed Penalty Notice, at excessive speeds, a Court appearance is inevitable. As a general rule of thumb, for speeds in excess of 100 mph (or more than 30 miles above the relevant limit) the punishment starts at disqualification as opposed to penalty points. However, the decision is at the discretion of the Court and in certain circumstances, a disqualification can be avoided.

Mainly, the
certain curcumstances will involve transport being essential for a job.

i think the confusion stems from when you get over 100 you no longer get a simple fixed penalty notice you get a court date instead leaving it to the court to decide your fate?

nope.
I know someone who was caught doing an average of 106mph and was given a £60/3pt fixed penalty.
Its all down to the discretion of the officer at the scene or judge if it goes to court.

Doh, that's very unlucky!
The only time I've been pulled over in the 420 was in the dead of night. I was doing about 40 in a 30 (oh noes) with no other traffic around.
Traffic cop goes past the other way, I think "I can't be bothered slowing down, he won't be able to tell how fast I'm going" and carry on.
I watch as he brakes and turns into a nearby street... "oh great" I think. It went into a 40 a bit further on so I maintain my speed and keep on going. I could have booted it and left him, but however much fun it might have been, I didn't fancy sharing a cell with big bubba
Anyway, the guy pulls me over and asks me if I know why he's stopped me. "No idea" is my reply. He starts going on with the whole "you must have been doing 50+ back there". I reply with "I don't think so, I looked at my speedo when I spotted you".
He basically calls me a liar to which I contest and then he replies with "I'm not going to argue with you". Yeah, because you know I was right!
C*ck.

I think im pretty safe in saying we have all raced another car at one time or another on a public road - regardless of the conditions or road it is illegal and therefore can't be condoned.
However as to if it was dangerous or not is something none of us can establish as we wern't there at the time - personally my views of exceeding the speed limit are already well known, so I won't go into them now - but I do think that it is a little hypocritical to say too much about having a blast against another car especially in certain
cases
However as a word from the wise - apocryphal tales are one thing but admissions of guilt with explicit details are quite another, especially in these times.
I'll keep my stories to myself in future

Either that, or rewording them slightly would probably be good plan fo a hassle free life and a longer driving future.
Just my 2 pence

Point taken...but in all honesty i never encouraged him to speed (race) as he was already doing so, i merely overtook a car on a dual carrageway.
just found out the only time i had points was back in 1983 for doing 82mph on the M6

numbers are all rubbish anyway...
can anyone say it's safer screwing a rattley fiesta pop plus down the motorway at 70mph than doing 100mph in something like a BMW m5 on a stretch of motorway??
If people know their limits and are just having a spirited drive safely within reason I see nothing wrong...some idiots will go through reds (as I saw the other day) or take dangerous manouvres to try and race and this is the only aspect of having a go with something else that I find upsetting.

Like munky said it seems to be down to the rozzer who catches you.
Not sure if I knew you back then but I got pulled on my way to peel for doing a nudge over 100 on the a19 in my 214 and the copper decided I'd learned my lesson and wrote me a letter just saying I was speeding.
I still had to throw my duds away because the stains were that bad though.
