Not been around here the last few months, been really busy packing.
But the time is now here and I am off to Australia (near Melbourne) Sunday for good
The good news I am taking my Rover Tomcat Race car which should be the only Tomcat in Oz.

G'day from OZ Jason. Good to hear you are making the move down here, you wont regret it. Economy is still booming here and construction industry is struggling to cope with the demand for and lack of skills. Petrol less than sixty pence a litre should appeal to you too!
Im in Bendigo, about 2 hours north of Melbourne. So impressed you are bringing the tomcat with you, it will indeed be the only one on Australian soil. I did consider bringing mine here but have since sold it. I drive an MR2 turbo now. You will be spoilt for choice for race tracks here, they are all over. There are some great public roads too for the MG TF such as in the alpine areas.
If there is anything I can do to help when you land here let me know. If you can squeeze a packet of penguins in your suitcase for me I would be eternally grateful!
Send me a PM and I'll forward you all my contact details.
Pat

Yeah a friend of a friend has gone out there but has had to retrain under their guidelines to gain an ozzy qualification as a chippy, moneys ok but quality of life is much better and sunshine nearly always on the forecast.
I've been looking into a few bits and bobs ith regards to site management out there as apparantly theres lots going up.
Nice move, wish I could be doing the same!
Si

Yes, all good tracks which always have track days, skid pans etc for the road registered cars. We also have drag strips nearby and also the hot rod centre of Oz in Castlemaine only down the road. There are some great mechanics and machinists around too so you will have no worries getting more custom type work done. You will probably also have to rely on NZ for spare parts for the tomcat but I dont think its too expensive getting parts over, the two countries have strong ties.
Im a civil engineer and have many contacts in the construction industry and deal with a lot of contractors. I assumed you had something lined up.
If any of you guys are in construction related work and fancy a change, let me know.

Just got back online, in Australia.
The cars have landed, but the customs want me to pay tax on the car spares

We know what Rover spares are worth but Australians don't, they want a fortune off me or they will get scrapped.

I am now here in Oz with the only Tomcat Race car
Gave it a clean today as it has been in transit for months.
And with my MGF/TF Cup car
And the Misses MG TF is here now, hopefully the only yellow in Australia.

Yes I heard or read about the customs and the spare car parts.
Still, at least you have a job now and you can continue with your new sunshine life. Do not ever say you are sick of the sunshine and miss the crappy weather back home. If you ever start feeling like that, ignore those feelings and they will eventually go away.
