If i can get the Tig welder at the hole i can fix it, thats the trouble with alloy, you need to see the leak.

With copper you can let the solder run down the core to repair the hole.

Feel free to send it over and i can have a look mate.

That does sound good mate :) but probably going to be a bit more expensive than a RS one. I like the RS ones as they offer a reasonable improvement over stock and allow for the original set up to stay the same..

Plus I have managed to source the main Roversport parts and I would like to continue along those lines

they are thicker than std something like 30% or thereabouts...

but also crucially for me fit in the std rad frame so you can have an OE set up..

You say std fittings mate, but the depth pushes it closer tot he turbo doesnt it or does it shove it forward where intercooler and fans are? Either way its an inconvieniance.... iirc they are nearly double the depth. They are also very heavy, specially when compared to the ally ones.

You could always get an ally one and spray it black!!

Jase - you're right about the depth they are a fair bit deeper/thicker. I think they run closer to the turbo but can't remember for sure. I suppose a better upgrade is an alloy one in the standard rad frame. I didn't want to change the OE set up of having the cooler on the top above the rad etc.

I know some folk have used a full heigtht rad and then gone with a front mount with all extra piping etc. That is something I don't want to do just yet.

never really thought of the weight differnce between the RS copper one and an alloy one though. Weight is the BIGGEST enemy so maybe I should start looking for a alloy one.

Do you know the saving to be had?? maybe a few kilos at a guess :?

I'd say the ally ones are about half the weight when I pick both up in a hand each

damn - that is some weight difference mate :o

One thing you don't want to do is add weight in that area.

I moved my battery to boot, lightened the flywheel etc- removed all the locking mechanism as I am going down the route of bonnet aero catches. Basically trying to lighten the front end as much as possible. WIll eventually get a GRP bonnet at some point too..

think I might leave the RS rad then :| as it seems silly to add that weight back.

Not really any more expensive, he can build "any" radiator for £200, I estimate a rover sport rad ( you would have to really look to tell the difference between a "genuine" one ) would cost about £150.

Thickness, they are indeed nearly double, the core itself is double, its a quad core instead of a twin core.

You have to trim the front cross member to get it to fit aswell. It actually sits closer to the front of the car and just closes the gap up between the rad and fan frame.

Radiators aren't heavy items, in copper or aluminum. Ok there is obviously a difference, but the main issue is the weight of it full of coolant

Around £150 for a quad core rad is a bargain!

Yes, coolent is another factor in weight. Thats my excuse for battling on with the half size rad - its lighter in use plus of course its much easier to work around.
Dry, iirc was 2 or 3kg which is a lot for 2 comparable items of that size. A deeper RS one will be a lot more, plus as per ^ itll carry more water so will be heavier again wet.

Like Josh said, picking both items up amazed me at the difference.
