Suspension Group Buy - interest thread

Post by BazR »

Following on from this thread... http://www.rovertech.net/forum/viewtopi ... 5&t=138798

The consideration is these...

Image

In the above colours (as far as we know for now)

Added a small poll to see what colours are favoured, I added 'Other' to gauge the amount of people not interested in the stock colours. I am sure we could work out a way to change the colour. I am not high up in this process so any ideas are welcomed.

Feel free to add your name to a list of some description, bear in mind this is only for interest. If we get enough on board then I shall do out a proper thread for records sake.

I'd like to think these are 100% fitting wise but like Drew suggested, anyone else gone this road before?

Ah great, so these are rear camber adjusters? (just scanned over the previous thread)
Would like to hear feedback from anyone who has fitted these (hate discovering that things don't fit right like those other skunk lower arms, and disappointing to hear that the supplier wasn't interested in after-sales support).
I have seen those skunk types suspension pieces on Civics.

Anyway, happy Christmas to everyone and good to see you all still here.
Colin.

Would be interested if we could be sure they fit. If I had the choice i'd want them in black.

I've been running a pair of D2 arms for the rear camber for over a year now with no issue, they've paid for themselves in tyre wear already as the T1R's on the rear seem to have barely worn, and perfectly evenly with half a degree of negative camber dialled in.

Only issue I see with them is the rubber bushings, but those can be replaced for some top hat poly's easy enough I'd imagine.

I found I had to get myself a 29mm spanner to do these things up tightly, as some of the locking nuts had loosened off after a month or so after being set up (using a 30mm spanner). Been solid ever since though.

Iirc mine came to around £60-65 posted from a UK trader through ebay. There were slightly cheaper options that involved things being posted from the states, and the more expensive options didn't seem to have any advantages besides the bushings, and doubling the price just to have the same thing poly'd didn't seem worth it to me.

Thanks. Bit puzzled by 'Bubbles'...

So, from that they will fit my Y2000 Rover 45 and both 2003 and 2004 MG ZS 120s in my family. If so, I'd be interested in a couple of pairs if price reasonable.

Would these be from Skunk2, as with the lower arms?
I've been looking at the items listed on eBay and they mostly seem to be cheap tat from China, or unknown brands from the States. Either of which i intend to avoid.

Interest will depend slightly on price (i think they're listed on the Skunk2 website at about $180). But i'd rather pay good money for good kit, as i'm sure most people would.

Gold for me, if possible please :)

Edit for spelling. And again.

The thing is though, after a lot of trawling through eBay I came to realise that a lot of them are all the same. The important bit is where the threaded sections are attached to the bush housings, and the vast majority of branded and unbranded ones looked identical in that aspect being 2 separate steel parts welded together. The adjustment link and the locking nuts could be different colours or finishes with different logos, but it's basically the same thing. Like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M2-REAR-CAMBE ... 35bfa83e20

This the other design:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GSP-RED-JDM-C ... 5aed413819

http://www.godspeedproject.com/honda-ci ... er-kit-blk

There is nothing really wrong with the welded type, it seems to do the job well enough. The main thing is getting a set with poly bushes at a decent price, something I was unable to do hence why I gave up and went for the D2's.

Thanks for the detailed response.

Perhaps i was wrong to paint the Chinese and American kit with the same brush.
The Godspeed link you've posted does have a well-presented website which gives the impression of a well run company. However, it is just an impression, and as i haven't heard of Godspeed before i don't know about the quality of their products.

The problem i have with 'cheap' (especially the really cheap knock-off stuff from China) parts is that they could be made from inferior materials, which in the worst case scenairo could physically fail. I know that's a bit sensationalist, but i've got to the point with my cars now where i will only put top quality kit on, and if i can't afford it i will stay standard.

Ideally i would be after some quality German parts that have passed the strict TUV. However, Skunk2 is a well-known and respected brand, and the group buy scenario has the additional appeal of being a bit cheaper.

Anyway, i'll get off the soap box now. :sorry:
