Help needed! Which do i keep??

Post by danr »

Evening all.

I need help in making a decision!

Basically at the moment i have 2 cars.
1. Rover 416SLI
2. Rover 216 Coupe

I need to sell one. I bought the 416 to replace my old 414 that got written off (not my fault) and i do like it but its to grandadish (horrible interior, standard engine ect but only 38000 miles on a p plate and potential to make into a zs replica but cost to much) so i decided to sell it.
Before it sold i went and bought myself the 216 as it was very appealling (lowered, 17's, mini me conversion and plain black very nice interior but 80000 and on m plate). :?

Im now questioning which to sell as i may be getting a new job which may include some travelling and i think the 416 may be more reliable.

Need opinions please.

By the way im only 20 hence the grandad comments (dont mean to cause any offence).

I not sure what sort of miles your going to do in your new job? but I know my Coupe would really tripe n onions me off if I did a fair few motorway miles. It does at the moment and that only about couple of motorway trip a month. It's just the wind noise from the t-bar. :x You could sell both and get a 620 :)

 bit of a tough one that!,the coupe would probably fetch more if you sold that-but would you really want to knock around in the grandad motor!!!???????-if it was me i know what choice i would make - sell the grandad car and keep the coupe n tweak it.

Its all down to a matter of choice because if the coupe has been well maintained then there really shouldnt be that many problems even with its higher mileage. My thought is that if you bought the coupe because you wern't happy with the 'grandad car' then you will still be unhappy with it if you sell the coupe.I would go with the coupe but make sure I looked after it so it was reliable. :D 8)

For the sohc honda engines like in the 216 coupe, transplant the head from the std d16a6 for say a d16z6(?) sohc vtec head, then run the vtec on an apexi or like. takes power from 109bhp to 125bhp

Well you guys have been no help!!! :?

Only kidding i think im gonna keep the coupe. Just has more street cred unless stevedx makes me an offer i cant refuse???? :)

Gonna try answer some of the questions :

1. Mini me conversion is where you put a vtec top end on the standard k series bottom end (as explained more technically markcoupe)
2. not gonna get a 620. Would be nice but far to big!!!
3. xr4x4 - Take it your old???? Markcoupes right i am talking about the bubble shape one (and actually think the older 200/400's look nicer in an old car style of way)
4. It is a nightfire red one but i didnt buy it off here bought it from a lad in manchester

Think my mind was made up when i spent a load of money yesterday having two new bearings fitted, various new filters fitted, oil drained and filled with magnatec ect ect and also spent 3 hrs cleaning her inside and out and now looks spotless (gonna have to do this again for trax :o )

Thanks for all your comments.....

Keep the coupe.

The mileage is irrelevant on the coupe, it's got a honda engine, it'll be fine. It's also irrelevant on the 416, it's got a k series, it's going to blow a head gasket.
The question is... when?

Yeah, sure, the 400 may be more practical, it may have less wind noise, but which one catches the eye of the ladies? Well then. Since I got my coupe 2 weeks ago I keep on getting women staring at it, and people keep saying how nice it looks. And that's a std one!

Coupe all the way.

MarkCoupe must really have explained it well if you have a K seriees bottom end.

Cookci uses this forums so you did kinda buy it from someone on here, who lives in Manchester. Unless of course theres a town called Rovertech?

Hope this clears things up ;) Oh how much do you want for the Coupe?

Would send you some pics but with the speed of my net would take all night (father wont get broadband  tight donkey boy). If you look on rover-coupe.co.uk there under the pics section. Im danr on there as well.

Honestly have not thought about a price for it but as spent quite a bit on it since i bought it (bearings, sony head unit and changer, new filters ect) would be looking at a decent price to sell.

Honestly i wasnt going to sell it so dont have a price in mind. If your seriously interested then pm me what your looking at paying. I currently have two cars both with full mots but both taxes run out at the end of this month so need to make a decision which one goes asap. Like i say if an offer was made i cant refuse we could probably talk about a deal.

I'd just like to point out that maintaining a car doesnt increase its value, it just means you can keep it MOT'd and sell it for its book price.

Appreciate what your saying johnny5 but the point was just that nothing needs doing if someone was to buy it.
