£6500 to spend. ##sorted##

Post by vinny19791 »

Well I've been quiet lately

The rover is still here as is the Zr.

I have £6500 max to spend on a 7 seater car

Sadly it can't be a zafira

So 7 seats, no more than 8 years old really.

Reliability is a must and fuel economy has to be decent I guess.

Thoughts?

Would you consider finance because that's a good deposit to put down if so.

Brand new car, insurance & servicing all under one price.

That way its one less car to worry about breaking down/repairing on top of the MG-R fleet.

No

I would prefer to just spend what I have.

Id be very pleased about not having to buy a zafira  On the limit for age/ budget but an early S-max is much less depressing than the vauxhall

Don't rate the volvos, the quality of the fords whilst admittedly are better than old times they are a bit shiny and cheap inside. The Diesel engine is lacking IMHO compared to German stuff.

I'd go for a VW touran. The 2.0 tdi is spot on. These can return nearly 60-70mpg iirc

If you can quietly forget about the fuel consumption, and have little taste, you could probably get an early TDV6 Disco 3 for that sort of money.

Just ensure the front and rear suspension arm bushes have been replaced and the air suspension compressor as well.

The bushes are a HUGE job and will fail, they knock when braking at low speeds and the rear is twitchy cornering.

In general, the disco III is a costly car to repair.

I've spent many a day cutting through seized bolts on the suspension bushes at work. Not fun. Changing both front arms, both rear uppers when really seized can take about 8 hours in total and then you need to have a full geometry adjustment.

Well that's hardly surprising, it was after all when Land Rovers started switching over to being luxury cars.

How about a previous gen version, bound to be at least 7 seats in that...

as nice as the volvos are their diesel engines arent exactly problem free, especially that ´D5´ :(

was talking about MPVs at work other day, there isnt really anything cheap that is reliable - most bargains are made by the french and tend be problematic.

i dont know much about them but i do see alot of Chrysler Grand Voyagers about by me

It's pretty over priced for it's quality and spec though.

Can't deny though, they've come a long way to the build of the first days of Kia.

I know of the horror stories of the engines and boxes.

Thoughts?

The 1900 are good engine, if you have a whine on the box leave it alone (you knew that though)

Do not entertain a 1.7!!! They are awful. Awful AWFUL cars, they have intermittent lag on the turbo, which when you pull away at a junction can be dangerous, the fuel tank is dodgy, it will read a decent amount then all of a sudden it drops like no business and you'll be lucky to get 30mpg on a long run.

The 1.7 is pants, how do I know? Worked at vauxhall for two years before emigrating and my parents had one for 3 years and i drove it a lot.

They road tested the 1.9 and I told them to buy a 1.9 but they got a 1.7 ecoflex

Only thing I hate about 7 seaters is, no room for luggage when all seats in use and if you have a rear end shunt the people in the rear seats are mega vulnerable!

I've seen the fire brigade cut the rear end off a Renault 7 seater to get trapped kids out after a 40mph rear end shunt.

the boxes on most vauxhall dont like mega torque, though probably due to owners launching them off the lights more than anything.

my pal had an 888astra cdti and he did 2x boxes within 9 months

for what you want it for keep it stock imo

Sorry vinny,

When I worked at vauxhall a dealership in Lithuania had all their technicians fired and in court, they all owned the same zafira and vectras as you have and they remapped their ecu with the map from Dubai I believe as they have no restrictions on emissions for diesels, removed the pdf and blanked the egr and they had huge torque.

What got them in trouble is they all used the supervisors log on details as it records who does what to any vehicle in a dealership with the MDi.

You need to keep the dpf on and smash it out, so it looks oem for the mot.
