Insurance question re. 220 gsi turbo hatch rarity

Post by Patrick Church »

Hi All,
11 of these left taxed, mine is one of them,'94 vintage & still in fine fettle, in regular use, I'd trust it to go to Scotland & back (I'm in the South), and I reckon it will most likely outlast me....anyone with an opinion regarding insurance please?
Just renew as a daily driver, or go for an agreed value?

I currently have it insured normally, so I assume I'd get a measly market value pay out should it get written off...
I'd be interested to hear opinions as regards what way to go, what others have done, and maybe which insurance companies they've used etc, & how much they paid for an agreed value policy (I pay about £200 a year on a normal fully comp policy, I'm 52, no points, no accidents & max NCD).

Also what are they worth in good condition (by no means concours condition) with good service history.I know the usual answer is "worth what someone is willing to pay", but approx in real money...800 1200 1500 2k?

Thanks.

Agree with above.

Also seems to me lately the few that are for sale are asking 2-3k which imo is a good thing

Thanks chaps, any recommendations as to what insurance company is best, or is a an agreed value something they'll all entertain the idea of?
Also will my £200 pa for normal market value insurance be likely to sky rocket with a switch to an agreed value policy I wonder...

EDIT Just rang my current insurers up & they don't do agreed value policies, and until the time comes that it's written off and THEN valued, the woman couldn't say what I'd get for it, so will be looking to change insurers in November.Got a few months to find an alternative meantime.

I went with Adrian flux, got an agreed value up to £3000 on my mg zr turbo.

Paid around £350, fully comp, protected ncd.

I just had to fill in some forms.

I have all the proof I need for everthing I've done from the beginning.

Nice one, thanks.
I don't fancy going from £200 pa to £350 but at the same time would be a fool not to if that's what it costs, as in the event of a total loss I'm sure that at market value they'd try & bend me over for less than a grand.

Ive got my coupe on a classic policy with footman james, something like 180 quid a year with an agreed value. Dont get ncb on classic policies though and im sure it needs to be a 2nd car.

Hi,
If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.
We can offer a fixed agreed value for pretty much any car as long as it over 12 months old.
Regards,
Dan.
