Fitting a Roversport Grill on a Facelift Coupe???

Post by Imran »

I have just bought a Roversport 3 tooth grill (a bit similar to the pre chrome grill) for my coupe and I am unsure whether I need a new bonnet??
I know I need a pre facelift bonnet latch, but can anybody shed anylight on what other bits I might need.
Can I use any 200 Turbo bonnet guys?? :)
cheers :)

You will need a pre-face lift bonnet as when you remove the chrome grill there will be 3 holes mate.

You can, but isn't the idea of the new grille to make it look better rather than worse?

Something behind the holes to support the filler, fill the holes, sand them down, add spray paint.

Sorted ;)

If both bonnets are identical apart from the the fact that one (facelift) has more holes than the other(pre facelift), I might as well keep thefacelift bonnet and fill the holes.
I would rather do that than buy a tattly rusty old and different colour bonnet and then get that sprayed silver....

When I duffed my front end, I bought a grilled bonnet (my car was pre-grill), had the 5 holes filled and the bonnet sprayed black (as it was nightfire).

Looked ten times better being de-badged with the bar type grill.

i have done this! take the grill off you are then left with 5 holes.
take 5 5p coins and glue in place on the back of the holes. then fill the holes with filler. rub back down and then touch in with a paint pen.
i did that before i had the bonnet all redone in my mates bodyshop, and held up for some time!

you will need to get an early type bonnet latch or you could use the one you have by bending the latch around so its at the top.

also i think the trim under the lights will need changing and the roversports grill has the little bits to the sides. i got around this by cutting them off.

hope this is some help :)
my old rover 220 turbo is missed!

Any plastic grilles under light trims will fit, so opens up the saloons and hatches to plunder, they don't have to come from a coupe, just remember, early G-K regs had smaller indicators too, so make sure you don't get those as they'll end to early on the wrap round into the wing
