200 vi, worth getting one for a runabout??

Post by t220cat »

as title, i'm very tempted to get one(not the first time either) as a daily runabout, i have found a good one for a good price close to me, so i'd like to hear what people have to say about them in all aspects, performance, ride, reliability, cost to run etc etc, thanks in advance :D

Apart from the obvious HG problems, they're great little cars.

Not many people know what they are, so you'll definitely suprise them :D

Slightly uprated suspension and have the 1.8 VVC lump sitting in the front. 143ish bhp so lots of power and great fun!

I got one between having a pug 306 gti 6 and my 220 turbo... hated to admit it at the time but definatly quicker than the 306!! very fast little cars.. only a 1.8 engine so i was averaging 35ish miles to the gallon... that was with the crappiest loudest exhaust on ever.. not sure if that would make a difference like..
Handling was reasonable in my opinion, but was comparing it to my lowered pug.. In my opinion they are exceptionally good value for the price you pay.. quick, reasonably good handling, reasonably comfy, and have that "thats not quick at all look" but can most importantly wee all over alot of unsuspecting bmw drivers!!! i paid 960 with 73k on the clock and kinda think i paid too much... he he
Good little run around car...

had a look at one at the weekend and was impressed by the performance and handling etc, but the underneath of the front end was quite badly rusted, as in the driveshafts and cv's, all suspension components and subframes, although it did have fsh and had just had cambelts and a head gasket change, but i'm gonna hang on til a better one comes along, thanks for your input guys :)

HI There,

It is totally worth getting one if you have not already, i had one from new for 5 years thing was brilliant apart from head gasket dead on 60,000 miles same with my 25 GTi watch for that. Other than that brilliant.

DO IT !

ive got a 200vi 112,00 miles silver, its my wee pride and joy, the engine is amasing as long as you keep on top of servicing and oil changes, the only thing i would change is lower and stiffer suspension and more supportive seats. these cars are serious hot hatches ive gave quite a few surprises to other cars including a friends RX8 221ps who couldnt overtake, how i nearly wet myself lol. im looking at either swapping it for a 220 coupe turbo or putting the engine in, but putting the engine in looks expensive as id have to uprate suspension etc. but untill then its a bargain to run as the only thing ive had to replace is the starter (dip the clutch when starting folks, seemingly it helps prolong its life!!!)
Boost cut is similar to this :o with emphasis on this :scared: Then this :? and this  this :x this , then when you fix it, this :D
